First off let me say that i’m a 13 year old and i love old fashioned traditional Halloweens. My mom is always talking about how great Halloween was when she was a kid. (she’s only 32 so she’s not old) and I like costume-MAKING (not buying), witches and ghosts and vampires, popcorn and pumpkins and apples, crunchy leaves and chilly night air and having to wear a cloak (yes a cloak don’t hate) outside. my mom has gotten lazy with Halloween. she lets my 7 year old sister dress up as cows and fairies (instead of something scary) and stuff and she buys the costumes and takes her to the mall to go trick or treating! like WTF! i never wanna do that crap. My friends are into the kind of Halloween that i like, too and i always ask my mom if i can go trick or treating with them and she says no. we live in a really small village that’s not even on the map and the village is like the middle school and high school. then some shops, getty, stewarts, cumberland farms, the grocery store, the bank, subway and some more houses and then if you go down Main St you’ll be at the park, the town pool, the skate park, the candy shop, the pizzareia, the chinese food place, the diner and more houses and then if you go down there’s the river and the marina. so with this extremely small village and me being very responsible (said by my family on multiple occasions) and being with a group of friends don’t you think i should be able to trick or treat by myself?
The thing is i don’t have a cell phone or anything.

HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE DO YOU THIN IT’D MAKE IF I USED WHITE WHINE VINEGAR?

(:

OLD-FASHIONED POPCORN BALLS (no marshmallows)
1 c. corn syrup, light or dark
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. water
2 tsp. vinegar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. margarine
2 quarts popped popcorn–measure it!

Stir in a heavy 2-quart saucepan the corn syrup, sugar, water, vinegar and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until temperature reaches 260 degrees on a candy thermometer or until a small amount dropped into very cold water forms a ball which is hard enough to hold its shape, yet plastic. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons margarine. Slowly pour over 2 quarts of unsalted popped popcorn, mixing well. When cool enough to handle, quickly shape into balls with greased hands. Makes about 10 balls
