instead of oil can i to pop some popcorn in a pot(the old fashion way)can i use unsalted butter?

am really craving popcorn, i usually eat the trader joe’s gourmet one. but i dont got any, and i cant drive over to buy it..so i found some of this kernel kind, in my pantry, but it says to use oil. so how can i make it with a butery taste?

Hi, we’ve been popping popcorn w/ butter in a pan on the stove forever, it works fine w/ just some melted butter in the bottom of the pan. Trust me, I’m a farmer – and I sell popcorn to the public all the time, so it totally works great.
Just use a lid on the pot & you’re good to go.

The butter will probably burn, if you’re not really careful….. You could try nuking the popcorn dry in the microwave in a covered glass casserole…
you will need melted butter or something like oil (spoon olive oil ok)
pop corn tends to burns with out oil unless it air heat.
Butter will burn and burn your popcorn too…could even start a fire…..try extra virgin olive oil……….For a buttery taste just heat up some butter separately in the microwave and pour it on your popcorn after it’s popped. This works fine….and tastes nice and buttery too!
If you pop it in butter,(the old fashioned way, in a pot on the stove) watch it closely, so it doesn’t burn.
Maybe a better way is to pop it in enough oil to cover the bottom of the pot, and melt the butter separately in another pan. Then pour it over the popped corn.
Try it both ways. Then you’ll know>
The old fashion way used Pork Fat or Bacon
Butter is tricky because it burns quickly. Pop in coconut oil, add butter at the end.
If you keep an eye on it, and don’t let it burn.
I don’t see why not.
Usually, when home-popping corn, a small quantity of oil is used, and melted butter or salt is used to pop the already-popped corn. Butter will likely scorch if you attempt to use it with the kernels, because whole butter, unlike clarified butter (also called ghee), contains other compounds which cause it to smoke over high heat. Also, not enough butter will soak into the kernels while popping to provide that delicious taste you’re looking for.
The best contain to stove pop in is a stainless steel mixing bowl, as the shape helps the unpopped kernels stay in the bottom of the bowl, while the popcorn moves up the sides. This will prevent scorching as you are waiting/hoping for any ‘old maids’ to pop. (‘Old maids’ are what those stubborn kernels are called.) But don’t forget to cover it, and don’t forget to shake!
So melt a little buttery goodness up in the microwave, and just drizzle it over the top. That would be your best bet.
