What can I use instead of butter?

Old-Fashioned Popcorn Balls Always a favorite• 8 cups popped JOLLY TIME® Blast O Butter or Butter Licious Microwave Pop Corn
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1/3 cup light or dark corn syrup
• 1/3 cup water
• 1/4 cup butter or margarine
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 1 tsp. vanilla
Here’s How:
Keep popped popcorn warm in 200F oven while preparing syrup. In 2-quart saucepan, stir together sugar, corn syrup, water, butter and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Continue cooking without stirring until temperature reaches 270F on a candy thermometer or until a small amount of syrup dropped into very cold water separates into threads, which are hard but not brittle. Remove from heat. Add vanilla; stir just enough to mix through hot syrup. Slowly pour over popcorn, stirring to coat every kernel. Cool just enough to handle. Shape into balls, using JOLLY TIME® Pop Corn Ball Maker or buttered hands. Cool on foil or buttered wax paper. Wrap in plastic wrap; tie with a ribbon.

Yield: 12 medium popcorn balls

I’ve always wanted to try this and I’ve heard it tastes even better than cooking it in the microwave!

My microwave is dead, and I’m trying to figure out what to get to replace it. I’ve been thinking of buying a toaster oven for a while now, although I don’t really know why to tell you the truth. (Everybody else seems to have one and use it every day.) We use our regular toaster maybe once a week. But, to ask a dumb question, what else can you do with a toaster oven that you can’t do with a microwave? Also, I’ve read that it’s not always easy to find a toaster oven that makes regular toast well?

I use the microwave for cooking popcorn, heating up frozen veggies, re-heating drinks and leftovers, and cooking the occasional frozen meal. If I can use a toaster oven for all these, plus some other cool stuff that I’m not aware of, maybe that’s the route I should go? I’m looking at all these combo-type machines and am completely overwhelmed!!!!!! What about convection….worth it???

My price range is 0 – 150. Please name brands & models if there’s one you love! THANKS!

Have you ever popped………?

popcorn the old fashioned way……..
I mean really, I was thinking about it, my teenagers didn’t even know there was another way to pop popcorn besides throwing a bag in the microwave and pushing the popcorn timer button….

do you…………….?

make popcorn the old fashioned way:on the stove in a pan or the microwave way? i do it old fashioned way.

Popcorn in the microwave…?

Many years ago I heard that there is a way to pop popcorn in the microwave using the "old fashion" kind and a brown paper bag without adding oil…that way it is fat free and costs less than the "pre- bagged" microwave corn. Does anyone know how to do that? and if so, please share how. Thanks.

Can you use microwavable popcorn in a saucepan?

I was given microwavable popcorn, but I have no microwave! I was wondering if it was safe to take the kernels out of the bag and heat them in a saucepan…old fashioned style. Is this dangerous…or would it work?

Popcorn Question?

I like popcorn. acturally I love it. but when i put regular butter on it, some of the popcorn shrivels up. what can I do for this problem? also, how can i cook popcorn the old fashioned way (no microwave)?
Also, What do you think the movie people use? they butter is hot but doesn’t shrivel up the popcorn.
